There’s nothing better than an off road adventure, but it’s important to check your vehicle before any long drives. This includes oil, water and fluid levels, general wear and tear and of course the air filter, which is full of dust!
- Hema Maps offers physical maps as well as GPS, the best combination of staying on track and jotting down any hidden gems along the way.
- 65KM from Marble Bar is the spectacular, Coppins Gap.
- Coppins Gap is accessible by gravel or corrugated roads. Make sure to be in 4WD mode!
- Check in with the town locals, they are the people who live and breathe these places and will happily help you find some great hidden places.
- When driving off road, it’s really important to check underneath the vehicle for any sticks or branches that may have gotten stuck.
- Shay Gap is an old mining town, which closed after the town did in 1994.
- When Shay Gap was built almost 50 years ago, the modern architecture was described as almost space like. Now – there's nothing BUT space.
