Story: Kalgan's Pool
Episode: Episode 3
Presenter: Emma George
Air Date: 17th July 2022
- The Pilbara is a resources hotspot, and when people think of the town Newman, they instantly conjure up images of mining.
- The majority of the track is gravel road and dropping your tyre pressure and cruising at around 50km per hour will ease some of the corrugations.
- Kalgans Pool is located 90 minutes from Newman, off the Nullagine Road. You will need to get a BHP Access pass from the Newman Visitor Center for a gold coin donation.
- Multiple water crossings have been created by dewatering pumps at nearby mines. Several are between 100-150m long and have a current.
- The ground underneath is solid so there is little chance of getting bogged.
- It is a popular swimming hole with locals as evidenced by the rope swings hanging from the trees. Due to the high rock walls, the water can get a little cold.
- High banded iron formation walls envelope the permanent pools of water.
