- Access is via obtaining a permit from the Newman Visitor Center for the cost of a gold coin donation. The access road is part of BHP’s rail access network.
- Discovered by Arthur Hickman, a government geologist, while browsing Google Earth, in 2007.
- Crater is about 270 meters across and 30 meters deep. Current estimates place it around 50,000 years old. The crater was originally closer to 90m deep.
- The crater itself is around 250 meters in diameter and about 30 meters deep.
- The meteorite is thought to have been between 10 and 15m in diameter when it struck the planet.
- There are only about 185 impact craters on earth and around 1/6th are located in Australia.
- The track into Hickman is not caravan or camper trailer friendly due to some deep wash-aways along the track. It is recommended to leave either on the access road.
