Story: Bike Trails in WA – John Dunn Challenge Park
Episode: Episode 2
Presenter: Kate Mac
Air Date: 10th July 2022

  • John Dunn Challenge Park is located in the heart of Kelmscott. It’s a fabulous, free, all-ages, all-abilities bike park.
  • It was opened in April of this year and is absolutely heaving, according to community reports.
  • The Challenge Park provides an excellent entry point into riding for younger and newer riders, as well as offering technical riding features for more advanced riders through pump tracks, jumps, skills, and safety tracks.
  • The park is inclusive of all abilities, is gender equitable, and offers a pathway into cycle sports for culturally diverse community members, and other groups who may be less affiliated with cycle sports.
  • The project is a FREE destination for people of all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, and abilities. It is part of a wider masterplan for the park.
  • The Challenge Park is located within a recreation reserve, in close proximity to the Kelmscott High school and connected by path networks to the new Kelmscott train station.
  • Construction of the park was supported by a $270,000 Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund Grant from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, with the remainder of the $1.6 million construction cost funded by the City of Armadale through its capital works program.
