  • Rising 715m above the surrounding alluvial plain, Mount Augustus is an inselberg island mountain which is creased with rocky creeks, gorges and open plains supporting a range of vegetation.
  • Known as Burringurrah to the local Wajarri people, named after a boy who ran away from tribal initiation. There are petroglyphs scattered throughout the area.
  • It is the largest rock in the world, 2.5 times bigger than Uluru but differs from the iconic Uluru due to it having vegetation across its surface.
  • White-barked river gums indicate where water seepage occurs off the rock. A wide variety of bird and animal life inhabit the arid wattle, mulga and landscape.
  • Cattle Pool, on the Lyons River a tributary of the Gascoyne permanent water attracts water birds such as black cormorants, ibis, heron and a variety of ducks.
